Is the US ready to follow Canada's lead?

Listening to NPR, I've just heard Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) advocate that the United States follow Canada and Australia's lead and apologize to it's aboriginal communities for the atrocities committed against them. Canada's apology by the prime minister yesterday specifically mentions the residential boarding school atrocities. The United States could follow suit. In fact, considering the models given by two countries with whom the United States trades and considers as allies, the pressure is ON for following suit.
