Oklahoma Seminole Children brought to the Carlisle Indian School, 1879-1917

 Between 1879 and 1917, nine Seminole students were sent to the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. There were 2 girls and 7 boys, most from the Kiowa, Comanche and Wichita Agency. Their names, in order of arrival:

Albert Mekko, age 17, arrived Oct 27, 1879. He died at Carlisle April 21, 1879 and is buried in the cemetery. There is a photo of Albert among a group of students identified as "Our Boys and Girls."   https://carlisleindian.dickinson.edu/images/our-boys-and-girls-1881  Albert is number 24. Also in the photo is Laura Toneadledmah, (Kiowa) who accompanied the group Albert arrived with in 1879. There were 55 children brought to Carlisle from OK in that Oct 27, 1879 group - 14 girls and 41 boys. Of those, ten died at the school and are buried in the cemetery although two have been repatriated, and one is scheduled to be returned next week.

The remaining Seminole children from OK enrolled are:

Jennie Connors, age 10, arrived Aug 31, 1882.  Her sister, Winnie Connors, age 12, arrived the same day.

John Lowry, age 22, arrived Sep 24, 1888.

.David Baker, age 21, arrived Mar 16, 1900. He ran away from the school.

Wallace Benjamin, age 20 and Wallace Berryman, age 20 arrived Aug 30, 1906. Both of these young men died at the school. 

David Wasase, age 21, arrived Sep 17, 1914.

James Robb Brown, age 15, arrived Sep 22, 1917.

The school closed in August 1918.
